Out of the 1,700 people who were evacuated, around 600 were Indian nationals who were flown back to India. The others were transported to their respective countries. The operation was conducted in coordination with the Sudanese government and the Indian Embassy in Sudan.
The conflict in Sudan has been ongoing for several years, with violence and unrest affecting various regions of the country. The Indian government has been working to ensure the safety and security of Indian nationals in the region and has carried out several such evacuations in the past as well.
There is a significant Indian community in Sudan, with many Indians living and working in the country for decades. They are mostly involved in trading, construction, and other industries. However, the ongoing conflict in Sudan has created an unsafe environment for them, and they have been facing numerous challenges such as insecurity, lack of basic amenities, and limited access to medical facilities.
In the past few years, there have been instances of violence against Indians in Sudan, including attacks on their businesses and property. In 2018, an Indian national was killed in an attack in Sudan's capital, Khartoum. Such incidents have led to concerns among the Indian community in Sudan, prompting the Indian government to take measures to ensure their safety and security.
The Indian government has been working closely with the Sudanese authorities to provide assistance to the Indian community in Sudan. This includes facilitating their safe evacuation during times of crisis, such as the recent Operation Kaveri, as well as providing consular services and other forms of support.
Despite the challenges faced by the Indian community in Sudan, many Indians continue to live and work in the country, contributing to its economy and society.
